For the first time, all entrants in the 2009 Launceston to Hobart race will be equipped with OffShoreTrack GPS trackers. These trackers send position reports using a satellite system. This helps to avoid areas of poor reception that occur when using the mobile phone system to communicate. The trackers send their reports to a computer system in a high reliability data centre. The system displays position data using a web site.
