Kaiulani is 32 years old, is still racing in Hobart and competing in offshore races around Tasmania. Along with 3 of the crew, Kaiulani has competed in all Launceston to Hobart races conducted so far and Malcolm hopes she will do many more. The boat may be one of the oldest and smallest in the fleet but she is competitive and will enjoy the weather hard on the nose in this years race.

Footloose is a timber Young 88 built in 1984 by Milner Yacht Constructions in Launceston. Footloose is one of the first Young 88′s built in Tasmania. She was purchased in 2008 by Kaye Roberts and Stewart Geeves.
Her best result to date include being the overall winner of the 2010 Launceston to Hobart yacht race and she was the winner of the AMS division in the 2010 Maria Island Race. She also placed second in both AMS and PHS in this years (2011) Maria race and was overall winner in the 2009 Pipe Opener and won the Cock of the Huon in that year.

Footloose is one of the smallest boats in this year’s event with her crew being a mixture of youth and experience who hope to acquit themselves well against some of the glamour boats of the fleet.

Hot Prospect is a consistent performer with Gielston Bay Boat Club.

She won the Melbourne to Hobart Westcoaster 1977, 1978 and 1979. More recently she was the AMS and PHS winner of 1st race in Offshore Combined Club Series 2011 and finished 3rd on PHS in the 2011 Maria Island race.
This years crew has an average age of over 50 years of age.

Helsal 3 has competed in the last three Sydney to Hobart races and was due to compete again this year, having been chartered by an English crew. This charter recently fell through due to illness and as a result the Helsal 3 team has decided to compete in this years Launceston to Hobart race. Helsal 3 will be hoping for strong conditions to have any chance against the much lighter and newer competitors but she will acquit herself very well regardless.

Host Plus Executive is a modified Mumm 36, skippered by Jeff Cordell and crewed by a highly experienced group of friends. Host Plus Executive won the inaugural Launceston to Hobart race in 2007 with line honours, IRC and AMS wins. The boat competes in harbour racing pennants and is based at the Bellerive Yacht Club. Host Plus Executive hopes to perform well in rating classes this year and intends to finish ahead of boats that are similar in size.

Launched in 2005 and upgraded in 2009, Mr Kite has a carbon hull with canting keel and compisite rig. Mr Kite was Line honours winner in the 2009 and 2010 Launceston to Hobart yacht race and also in the 2009 and 2011 Maria Island yacht race.

The Mr Kite team intends to replicate her line honours victory of previous years as well as adding a handicap win in the Launceston to Hobart yacht race.

Pogue Mahone is a Ladgard 10.6 cruiser racer that is well known on the Tamar river. Her previous owners cruised extensively, but the new owners are intending to do some racing as well as cruising. The Pogue is a well found, well built boat capable of handling anything thrown at her, the crew hope they have the same capabilities.

Masquerade was designed by John Morgan and updated by Fred Barrett (rig, sail plan and foils) toward the end of the construction period. Tony built Masquerade at home and launched her in 2005 with the intention of racing for a few years before going cruising with family and friends. Meanwhile, 6 years later she is still racing.

The majority of the crew are regular Masqueraders from previous Launceston to Hobart races in 2008 and 2009. They are looking forward to a good race with our fellow 35 footers.

Planet X is a modified Huon 10 racing yacht that now measures 35 feet in lenght. Planet X has received some major modifications this year including rig re-positioning and a new prodder to help enjoy down wind sailing. the boats greatest achievement to date has been in winning the 2004 King of the Derwent. The crew hope to achieve similar results this year. Two crew members will be travelling all the way from Port Headland and Albany in Western Australia to participate in this years L2H. The biggest competition for Planet X in this years L2H will be in trying to beat Archie and Masquerade across the finish line

Y Nacht is a 1998 Oceanis 461. She was built and bought, for cruising, but her relatively inexperienced crew enjoy the social and learning opportunities provided by racing. A late night idea whilst at anchor on the East Coast, led to an L2H entry, but a mishap last year resulted in it taking 2 years to get a start. Our primary aim is to arrive safely in Hobart by 31 December.

Xplore, a Challenge 67, was specifically designed and built for the extreme conditions of the Southern Ocean. A fast, heavy-weather sailing yacht, Xplore has completed two round the world yacht races and has been operating in the high latitude polar regions for the past 6 years. Skipper Stephen Wilkins and his crew of friends, mostly from Beauty Point and the Tamar River, are looking forward to an enjoyable sail down the Tasmanian Coast to Hobart.

This is Archie’s second Launceston to Hobart and will be sailing with a group of talented sailors from Hobart. With a good mix of youth and experience the crew are looking for an exciting race.
